The trees are harvested in the winter from slow growth northern Alberta forests when there is minimal sap.
They are picked for minimal taper, straight and sound.
Unlike the majority of log builders we have a timber quota. This allows us to put our yearly supply of logs into
inventory and air dry them.
Non suitable logs are traded to one of the larger mills for quality building logs.
They are once again sorted as they are being peeled and unsuitable logs are then sawn on our mill for lumber.
Our logs are hand peeled in early spring.
They are seasoned under shelter from rain and sun to avoid blue stain and allowed to dry with the bark
off to maintain the natural color and texture of pine or spruce without beetle damage.
Logs are sorted into 3 size groups:
Cabin size, 10 inch average mid diameter. (unlike most handcrafted companies we do build cabins)
Home size, 12 inch average mid diameter.
Oversize, 14 inch or bigger mid diameter. We do one large home a year with this size.
We use lodgepole pine and white spruce as our primary species.
Take a look at our walls and corners and you will notice how level and consistent the logs are.
